Inna and Alex were both born and raised in a small town in the heart of Siberia, surrounded by vast landscapes, quiet resilience, and a deep curiosity about the world. Inna grew up in a family of geologists, immersed in the wonder of natural forms and the romance of scientific expeditions. From a young age, she was drawn to the expressive power of art and later honed her skills at one of the region’s most prestigious art schools.
Alex, born into a family of scientists, pursued engineering—fascinated by structure, process, and innovation. Music has always been another creative thread in his life, offering a balance of expression and discipline that echoes his artistic sensibilities. His passion for sound and form continues to influence his approach to visual art.
Their shared love of exploration took them across countries and disciplines, eventually leading Alex to immigrate to the United States, with Inna joining him soon after.
In their new home, art and science found a common language. Together, they developed a unique technique called Liquid Mosaic—a fusion of fluid artistry and structured layering, where pigmented polymers are applied to stone, glass, canvas, and wood. Inspired by the natural world and its intricate, often unexpected patterns, their work celebrates organic beauty through modern technique.
For the past 18 years, Inna and Alex have been creating Liquid Mosaic artworks—pieces that blend artistic vision with scientific precision, and tell a story that began in Siberia and continues to evolve with every new creation.
Technique of Liquid Mosaic
Eighteen years ago, Inna and Alex began developing a unique artistic process that would become the foundation of the Liquid Mosaic series—a technique where fluid dynamics merge with visual art to capture the organic beauty of nature. Rooted in their shared backgrounds in science and art, this method blends the precision of engineering with the expressive freedom of painting.
Drawing inspiration from the intricate patterns and vibrant colors of gemstones like agate, malachite, and jasper, they set out to emulate the mesmerizing beauty found in the natural world. Inna and Alex use simple tools—sticks, needles, and custom-made implements—to guide pigmented resins across surfaces such as glass, stone, canvas, and wood. This hands-on approach allows them to manipulate swirling bands of color and texture, echoing the geological patterns formed over millennia.
Each artwork is created through a meticulous layering process. Multiple translucent layers are poured and shaped, building visual depth and complexity while capturing the essence of natural stone formations. This technique not only mimics the appearance of polished minerals but also evokes the slow, transformative processes of the Earth itself.
